## Is weed legal in Nevada?

Yes. Adults 21 and older can buy marijuana for adult or medical use from a state-licensed store, with ID proving their age. Voters approved adult use on November 8, 2016, and it became legal on January 1, 2017, per the [Cannabis Compliance Board](https://ccb.nv.gov/nevada-cannabis-program/) (CCB). This guide covers adult use, as of October 27, 2026.

The catch is where you can use it. The sections below cover the possession limit, the places where use is allowed, and a table for visitors. Neighbouring states differ: see Alaska for another legal state with its own use rules.

## Is weed legal in Las Vegas?

Yes, on the same terms as the rest of Nevada: adults 21 and older may buy and carry it, but may not use it in public.

State law applies in every city and county, so there is no separate Las Vegas possession rule. Local governments add rules on top. Clark County approved lounge rules on December 20, 2022, according to [Clark Hill](https://www.clarkhill.com/news-events/news/cannabis-consumption-on-the-vegas-strip/). The Strip sits in Clark County, not the City of Las Vegas, which matters when you look up local ordinances.

## How much weed can you have in Nevada?

Adults 21 and older may possess up to 2.5 ounces (70.875 grams) of usable cannabis, or one quarter ounce of concentrate, or a combination that stays within the legal limit, per the [CCB FAQ](https://ccb.nv.gov/faq/). The FAQ also allows concentrated products with no more than 7,087 mg of THC.

Older pages still give one ounce of flower and one eighth of an ounce of concentrate. Those were the limits before January 2024; [The Gersten Law Firm](https://www.thegerstenlawfirm.com/nevada-criminal-defense/2023/10/24/nevada-marijuana-law-changes-in-january-2024/) describes the increase as part of the 2023 law that took effect in 2024.

The CCB's equivalency chart for edibles and other THC products is in milligrams, so a worked example helps. For one ounce of flower (28.35 grams), the chart allows 4,255 mg of THC in other products. At the full 2.5 ounces (70.88 grams), it allows none. The forms share one budget, so a bigger flower purchase leaves less room for edibles.

## Can you smoke weed in Las Vegas?

You can smoke weed in Las Vegas only on private property where the owner allows it, or in a consumption lounge.

The CCB states that adults "cannot use cannabis in any public place" and cannot use it in a moving vehicle, even as a passenger. A property owner may also ban it, under [NRS 678D.510(1)(c)](https://www.leg.state.nv.us/nrs/nrs-678d.html#NRS678DSec510). The CCB's [laws page](https://ccb.nv.gov/laws-regulations/) cites this as NRS 678D.500, but the legislature places it in 678D.510.

Here is where common places land for a visitor.

| Place | Can you use it? | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Your own home or a friend's home | Yes, if the owner allows it | CCB: private property unless prohibited |
| Hotel room | No in practice; the hotel sets the rule | Owner may ban use (NRS 678D.510(1)(c)). Defense firms list hotels as off limits ([702 Defense](https://702defense.com/blog/is-it-illegal-to-smoke-weed-in-public-in-las-vegas/)) |
| Casino floor | No | Listed as public buildings by [The Gersten Law Firm](https://www.thegerstenlawfirm.com/nevada-criminal-defense/2023/10/24/nevada-marijuana-law-changes-in-january-2024/); the Gaming Commission said in 2017 marijuana has no place in casinos |
| Sidewalk, Strip, parks, pool decks | No | CCB: any public place |
| Consumption lounge | Yes, inside the lounge | CCB: may be consumed at a licensed lounge |
| Rental car or taxi, moving | No | CCB: moving vehicle, even as a passenger |
| Rental car, parked | No in practice | Defense firms read the vehicle ban broadly |
| Lake Mead and other federal land | No | NPS: use is prohibited in NPS units; CCB: illegal on federal land |

The hotel row is the one visitors ask about most. A hotel room is private, but the hotel can ban use under the property-owner clause, and nearly all do. Ask for the written policy before you use anything.

## Can you smoke weed in public in Vegas?

No. Consuming weed in a public place is against state law, whether on the Strip, a sidewalk or a parking lot.

It is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $600 under [NRS 678D.310(3)](https://www.leg.state.nv.us/nrs/nrs-678d.html#NRS678DSec310), as [702 Defense](https://702defense.com/blog/is-it-illegal-to-smoke-weed-in-public-in-las-vegas/) also describes.

## Where can you smoke weed legally in Las Vegas?

Lounges are the only public venues, and few are open: state-licensed lounges plus the tribally regulated Sky High lounge on Las Vegas Paiute land.

The CCB's [list of licensees](https://ccb.nv.gov/list-of-licensees/), current as of October 2, 2026, shows three active lounge licences:

| Lounge | Address on CCB list | What reporting says |
|---|---|---|
| Dazed! | 2548 W Desert Inn Rd | Inside Planet 13; the only open state lounge in October 2025 ([FOX5](https://www.fox5vegas.com/2025/11/01/nevada-cannabis-consumption-lounges-struggle-grow-despite-legalization/)) |
| Society | 4640 Paradise Rd Ste 8-9 | Opened ahead of April 20, 2026; near UNLV ([Nevada Independent](https://thenevadaindependent.com/es/article/new-consumption-lounge-in-vegas-a-bright-spot-in-lackluster-nevada-cannabis-market)) |
| Smoke and Mirrors | 2975 Sammy Davis Jr Dr | Reported closed in 2025 after under 12 months, though the licence still shows as active |

An active licence does not mean the doors are open, so call the lounge before you go. The Nevada Independent counted two state lounges open in spring 2026; customers must buy from the lounge and consume there. Sky High is outside CCB jurisdiction. No state-licensed lounge sits on the Strip itself.

Clark County's lounge rules, per [Clark Hill](https://www.clarkhill.com/news-events/news/cannabis-consumption-on-the-vegas-strip/), bar anyone under 21, forbid consumption within view of a public place, and bar products bought there from leaving the premises.

## Can you drive or fly with weed in Nevada?

You cannot use weed while driving or riding in a car in Nevada, and you cannot fly with it, even to another legal state.

The CCB says any amount of consumption risks driving impaired, and driving under the influence is illegal. Marijuana is still federally illegal, so federal restrictions apply at the airport and on the plane. Our guide on [bringing weed on a plane](https://isweedlegal.com/can-you-bring-weed-on-a-plane/) covers TSA practice. For the federal picture, see [what Schedule III did and did not change](https://isweedlegal.com/marijuana-schedule-3/).

## Does federal law still apply in Nevada?

Yes. Federal law still treats marijuana as a controlled substance in Nevada, including on federal land and in federal housing.

The CCB says cannabis remains illegal on federal land, including national parks and military bases, and that cannabis charges may put federally subsidized housing at risk. The [National Park Service](https://www.nps.gov/bela/learn/management/marijuana.htm) says possession or use inside an NPS unit is prohibited. Lake Mead National Recreation Area is an NPS unit, so the Nevada limits do not protect you there.

For hemp-derived products, a separate federal change is coming. See [how the hemp ban affects dispensaries in legal states](https://isweedlegal.com/will-the-hemp-ban-affect-legal-states/).

## Can you grow weed at home in Nevada?

Nevada adults 21 and older can grow at home only if no licensed retail store is within 25 miles of the home.

The [CCB's rules](https://ccb.nv.gov/laws-regulations/) allow up to 6 plants per person and no more than 12 per household. Plants must be in a locked, enclosed space, must not be visible from a public place, and the grower must own the property or have the owner's permission. For plant counts in other states, see how many weed plants you can grow.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can tourists smoke weed in Nevada?

Tourists 21 and older can buy and carry it, but they can use it only on private property where the owner allows it or in a lounge. Public places and moving vehicles are off limits for everyone. Most hotels and casinos do not allow it.

### Can I smoke a joint on the Las Vegas Strip?

No. The Strip is a public place, and Nevada bars use in any public place. Public consumption is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $600 under [NRS 678D.310](https://www.leg.state.nv.us/nrs/nrs-678d.html#NRS678DSec310).

### Why are there no dispensaries on the Las Vegas Strip?

Casinos hold gaming licences, and the Nevada Gaming Commission said in 2017 that marijuana has no place in casinos while it is illegal federally. Only state-licensed retail stores can sell, and the [MJBizDaily report](https://mjbizdaily.com/nevada-regulators-reaffirm-wall-casinos-marijuana/) on that decision is the clearest explanation of the wall between the two industries.

### Can you bring weed from Nevada to another state?

No. Marijuana stays illegal under federal law, and crossing state lines or flying with it is a federal offence even between two legal states. Our guide on [flying with weed](https://isweedlegal.com/can-you-bring-weed-on-a-plane/) covers the airport rules.

### When was weed legal in Nevada?

Voters approved adult use on November 8, 2016, and it became legal on January 1, 2017, according to the [Cannabis Compliance Board](https://ccb.nv.gov/nevada-cannabis-program/). The possession limits rose in 2024 under a law passed in 2023.
